SEC Proposes Allowing Transfer Agents to Use Blockchain for Securities Ownership Records

The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) today announced a rule proposal aimed at updating the regulations for transfer agents to incorporate blockchain technology and tokenized securities. The proposal would allow transfer agents to use blockchain as the official record for maintaining securities ownership records. Relevant entities would be required to report the number of tokenized securities and the blockchain platforms used, a move that promotes the integration of blockchain technology into the U.S. securities market.
