CoinWorld reports:
Swedish electric and autonomous truck company Einride has announced plans to phase in the purchase of 500 Tesla Semis over the next 24 months, with the first vehicles expected to join the fleet in September. The vehicles will provide freight services for Amazon and other clients, focusing on the North American market.
Phased Deployment Over 24 Months
This order will significantly impact Einride's existing business scale. The company currently operates around 200 of its own heavy electric trucks, serving clients including Heineken and Pepsi. If the 500 Tesla Semis are delivered as planned, the fleet size will expand to nearly three times its current size.
Einride stated that these vehicles will be deployed across several key freight corridors in North America, including California, Georgia, New Jersey, and Texas. The company plans to finance the purchase through third-party funding rather than bearing the entire vehicle cost itself.
Saga AI Responsible for Scheduling and Charging Management
The newly introduced Tesla Semis will be integrated into Einride's Saga AI platform for unified management. This system is primarily used for fleet scheduling, route planning, and charging arrangements, aiming to allow customers to utilize electric freight services without owning vehicles.
For Einride, this is not only an expansion of its fleet but also a strengthening of its software service capabilities. As the number of manageable vehicles increases, the commercialization potential of Saga AI will also expand.
Tesla Semi Production Still in Progress
However, the success of this collaboration depends on Tesla's delivery capabilities. The Tesla Semi concept was first unveiled in 2017 but has faced years of delays. It wasn't until 2022 that Tesla delivered the first batch of vehicles to clients like Pepsi.
Tesla announced in April 2026 that the first Semi from its high-volume production line in Nevada rolled off the assembly line. Despite progress in mass production, Tesla has recently downplayed its statements regarding achieving large-scale output by 2026, indicating that it is still working on increasing the production capacity of its 4680 batteries to support the scale production of the Semi and Cybertruck.
Einride went public in June this year and is accelerating its expansion pace. In addition to this collaboration with Tesla, the company previously reached an agreement with Amazon to integrate 75 heavy electric trucks into its Relay freight network and build charging infrastructure at five locations in the U.S. Einride also acquired the charging company Flipturn to enhance its integrated service capabilities in vehicles, charging, and software.
According to the company, if the related joint business plans proceed smoothly, these collaborations are expected to help convert approximately $800 million of potential long-term recurring revenue into actual income.
