Cryptomarket enters 'the week of the year' - all eyes on Wednesday
This week, the financial world is on edge for the interest rate decision from the U.S. central bank (the Fed) on Wednesday. The tension is palpable as President Trump threatens tough measures if rates do not go down. Also
In Brief
Markets expect the Fed to actually raise rates on Wednesday.
President Trump wants a rate cut and threatens to halt trade with countries that the U.S. has a trade deficit with.
In addition to the interest rate decision, important figures about the U.S. economy will be released this week, and a crucial cryptocurrency law will be voted on.
Wednesday Sets the Tone
All eyes are on Wednesday when the Federal Reserve announces its interest rate decision for September. The general expectation in the market is a rate hike, which directly contradicts President Trump's wishes.
According to data from CME Group, there is an 86 percent chance of a rate increase.

This puts Fed Chairman Warsh, who has only been in office for three months, in a difficult position. The president is already ramping up the pressure. Nine days ago, Trump threatened to halt trade with countries with which the United States has a trade deficit if the Fed does not lower rates.
This is of great importance for the cryptocurrency market. A higher interest rate traditionally makes saving more attractive and borrowing more expensive. As a result, investors may sell riskier investments, such as crypto, which could put pressure on prices.
Trade Threat Increases Stakes
According to analysts from The Kobeissi Letter, global trade could take a significant turn if the Fed raises rates and Trump follows through on his threat. Such a measure would affect trade with about half of all U.S. trading partners.

They mention Mexico, China, Taiwan, Germany, Japan, South Korea, Canada, and India as countries that could be affected because the U.S. has a trade deficit with them.
The analysts of the newsletter therefore also refer to this week as 'the most important week of the year'.
The Rest of the Week
Additionally, tomorrow in America, there will be a vote on the crucial cryptocurrency law, the Clarity Act. The vote is important because, according to some senators, the next chance for a successful vote may not come until 2030. The law aims to establish clearer rules for the U.S. cryptocurrency market and has been in the works for some time.
Although the interest rate decision on Wednesday takes center stage, other economic figures this week provide more context. The publication of retail sales on Wednesday, just before the Fed's decision, is particularly interesting.
Later in the week, the spotlight will shift to the industry and the housing market. The week will conclude on Friday with data on industrial production.
All these figures together form the puzzle pieces that the Fed and investors use to assess the health of the U.S. economy.
The question hanging over the market, however, is whether the Fed's policy and the threats from the White House will clash. On Wednesday, we will get the first crucial answer to that.
