UEFA Dismisses Gianni Infantino's Apology Request and Maintains Its Stance Ahead of Elections

Only seven months away from the next FIFA elections, its president has bizarrely sabotaged himself due to his failed ambitious project to privatize the World Cup. The football world has criticized Gianni Infantino for his initiative and seemingly definitively let him go.

For this reason, Infantino himself issued a press release apologizing on behalf of FIFA. However, UEFA dismissed this apology request and remains firm in its stance to go all out against the Italian-Swiss leader.

The European football body assured that it will continue with the boycott of the World Cup that they announced a week ago.

"The federations affiliated with UEFA were very clear regarding the conditions linked to non-participation in FIFA competitions. Firstly, the proposals for the privatization of the main competitions had to be withdrawn, and secondly, guarantees had to be given that there would never again be attempts to distort football. These conditions have not been met. Furthermore, UEFA made it very clear in its statement on Saturday that it has lost confidence in Gianni Infantino's presidency. That stance remains. The announcement yesterday that some employees of the FIFA president (whose careers depend on his favor) agree with him changes nothing", was the statement from UEFA that was echoed by Sky Sports along with other news agencies.

In this context, the crisis in world football escalates as there are only 224 days left until the scheduled presidential elections on March 18, 2027 at the FIFA Congress in Rabat, Morocco. Moreover, in just three months (on November 18), the candidacies for that event will close.

The escalation of tension had a key chapter on Wednesday when Infantino led what European media called an "emergency meeting" at the organization's headquarters in Rabat.

After that conclave, the English newspaper "The Times" reported that the FIFA president had promised Morocco to host the final of the 2030 World Cup ahead of Spain in exchange for political support from Africa in the elections.

In this regard, FIFA denied that claim with a response to an X account from its FIFA Media profile. "It is false and misleading to claim that the FIFA president has made any promise regarding the organization of the FIFA World Cup 2030 Final. FIFA will make a decision at the appropriate time", they assured.

Amidst this situation, they released the official statement clarifying that "the FIFA Secretary General and the members of the FIFA Board present reaffirmed their full support for the FIFA President, Gianni Infantino, as the only official elected by the 211 member federations of FIFA."

Conversely, the European outlet Sky News reported that at that conclave "the main FIFA leaders" were absent and mentioned among the notable profiles that were not present the director of football (Jill Ellis), the global football development director (Arsène Wenger), the women's football director (Sarai Bareman), and the operations director (Kevin Lamour).
