Trader Loses Over CAD 350,000 Betting on SpaceX
Canadian retail trader Akshay Sapra recently revealed that he made over CAD 1.7 million trading AMD and Nvidia between 2024 and 2025, but nearly lost all his earnings due to high-risk trades. This year, Sapra bet on SpaceX, purchasing thousands of call options and shares after it was added to the Nasdaq 100 index. SpaceX's stock price fell from USD 158.92 to USD 149.47, resulting in a single loss of over CAD 200,000. He then bought back 2,200 put options, losing most of his funds, with total losses exceeding CAD 350,000 within a week. Sapra had previously lost nearly CAD 200,000 betting on Beyond Meat and underwent three weeks of treatment for gambling addiction. Although he has secured a software engineering job again and plans to document his trades on YouTube to curb his behavior, he still hopes to continue trading, admitting that his trading actions "easily slip into gambling." He once turned a negative account into CAD 350,000 but has experienced a cycle of "earning back, then losing it again," believing that high-risk, emotional trading may be no different from gambling.
