Russia Cancels Salary Indexation for Budget Workers Due to War Expenses
In regions of Russia, the indexation of salaries for budget sector workers is being canceled or postponed due to unforeseen expenses related to military payments. In Yakutia, the salary increase of 5.4% for teachers, medical staff, and researchers has been postponed from July 1 to September 1, 2026. This is due to the need to cover additional expenses for one-time payments to citizens who have signed contracts for military service. Starting May 10, 2026, the regional payment to military personnel will increase from 2.1 million to 3 million rubles. As of April 1, the budget deficit of the republic amounted to 9.47 billion rubles, with an expected deficit of 12.75 billion rubles. In the Rostov region, the indexation of salaries for budget workers by 4% from October 1 has been canceled, with no explanation provided. In Sakhalin, the salary increase for medical workers for 2026 has been frozen, as their salaries are rising faster than inflation.
