Lyft will use fast map updates from Bee Maps to build safer and smarter routes for all trips.Bee Maps sends live road changes from drivers using smart dashcams across different places. The new system works without requiring Lyft drivers to collect mapping or location data.Lyft has partnered with Bee Maps, a decentralized mapping platform powered by Solana’s Hivemapper, to enhance its internal mapping initiatives. The collaboration, which began in early 2024, helps improve Lyft’s routing and autonomous vehicle systems through access to real-time, street-level spatial data. In an X post on May 14, Bee Maps officially named Lyft a client, confirming the integration.Customer update! We're thrilled to announce @Lyft as a customer of Bee Maps.Lyft's leadership in ridesharing and mapping innovation is enhanced by our fresh street-level spatial intelligence. https://t.co/SVImVKFHyMStay tuned for more updates. pic.twitter.com/rwDZI4suzB— Bee Maps (@TryBeeMaps) May 14, 2025Real-Time Mapping Built on Decentralized InfrastructureBee Maps operates as a decentralized physical infrastructure network (DePIN), built atop the Solana blockchain and powered by Hivemapper’s mapping technology. The platform uses AI-enabled dashcams that detect and capture road changes such as detours, construction, new signs, or updated lane markings. These dashcams upload the data, which is reviewed and added to a live map that stays updated in near real time.Contributors worldwide are rewarded with HONEY tokens, the native cryptocurrency of the Hivemapper ecosystem, for uploading verified street imagery. This dynamic process ensures fresh, high-fidelity spatial intelligence, covering both mapped and unmapped regions with continuous input from everyday drivers.“Maps can’t be an afterthought—they need to be crowdsourced, live, accurate, and open,” said Ariel Seidman, Bee Maps CEO, in a joint press release. “We’re proud to arm a true innovator like Lyft with the constantly updated street-level spatial intelligence that enables their vision.”Lyft Uses Data, Not Driver ContributionsThough Lyft licenses Bee Maps’ data, its drivers are not part of the data collection process. The partnership involves access to mapping data only, not hardware installations. This approach allows Lyft to integrate decentralized, AI-collected geospatial data without altering its operational model or driver routines. The collaboration spans engineering teams across the U.S. and Europe. Additionally, the partnership helps Lyft strengthen its autonomous vehicle strategy by improving its ability to navigate through rapidly changing road environments. This method enables Lyft to adapt faster to road changes, relying on an external contributor network for real-time updates.
