Near Protocol Tests Quantum-Resistant Wallets with Banking Sector
The banking sector and regulatory stakeholders have tested quantum-resistant, cryptography-based digital asset trading infrastructure on the Near Protocol (NEAR) testnet. This trial aims to verify whether signature technology, assuming quantum computing threats, can be applied to the creation of institutional wallets and on-chain transfer procedures. The Responsible Fintech Institute (RFI) and Safeheron announced on the 24th that they have launched a pilot of the MPC protocol file supporting the NIST FIPS 204 standard's ML-DSA-65. The scope of the trial is presented as wallet creation and on-chain transfer activities. Participating institutions include Abu Dhabi Global Market (ADGM), the Guernsey Financial Services Commission (GFSC), the Malta Financial Services Authority (MFSA), Bison Bank, and DK Bank. Regulatory agencies will participate as observers in the first phase. This trial focuses on examining the flow of institutional digital asset transactions. MPC (Multi-Party Computation) enhances internal control and recovery possibilities by distributing the storage of private keys. ML-DSA-65 is designed to allow experimentation with signature structures that are resistant to quantum computer attacks. The chair of RFI emphasized the need for policymakers and financial institutions across various jurisdictions to collaborate. Near Protocol announced the addition of FIPS 204 as the first post-quantum signature option. This pilot is seen as a case where regulatory agencies did not execute transactions directly but participated as observers and governance participants, marking a significant step in discussions about security infrastructure for institutional digital assets.
