A survey of 6,185 users conducted by MEXC shows that a segment of participants is shifting activities related to traditional assets to cryptocurrency exchanges.
Survey Records a Shift in User Behavior
According to the report How Crypto Exchanges Are Reshaping Traditional Asset Trading published by CoinGecko, the user survey conducted by MEXC collected 6,185 valid responses in 13 languages. Among them, 2,874 individuals have investment experience through traditional financial channels.
According to data provided by MEXC, 74.2% of users with a traditional financial background reported that they have shifted part or all of their activities related to traditional assets to cryptocurrency exchanges.
In the group that started investing from the crypto market, 61.9% reported having accessed products linked to traditional assets on CEX.
These rates reflect the behavior of the surveyed participants. Since the survey sample focused on users related to the crypto market, the results should not be generalized to the behavior of all investors.
Operating Hours and Costs Are Factors Mentioned by Participants
The survey shows that 58.8% of participants mentioned limitations regarding trading hours, and 54.7% mentioned costs when evaluating some restrictions of traditional financial channels.
Conversely, the ability of the market to operate outside traditional hours and the cost structure were mentioned by participants as factors influencing their platform choice.
MEXC also noted that 69.2% of respondents had encountered situations where they could not react immediately to a market event due to traditional markets being closed.
The report also mentioned that a portion of users utilizes derivative products to access volatility of traditional assets outside market hours. However, these products have different structures and risk levels compared to directly owning the underlying assets.
CEX Continues to Expand into TradFi-Linked Products
CoinGecko data shows that activities related to traditional financial assets on cryptocurrency exchanges surged in 2026. The report tracks Binance, MEXC, Bitget, OKX, Gate, and Bybit, with product groups including stocks, precious metals, commodities, and foreign exchange.
According to the MEXC survey, 83.3% of participants indicated plans to increase activities related to traditional assets on CEX. This figure should be understood within the scope of the survey sample, rather than as a forecast for the entire market.
The trend of CEX expanding into traditional assets indicates that the boundaries between crypto infrastructure and TradFi are continuing to change. However, the availability of a product on an international platform does not mean that the product is permitted or suitable for users in every country.
