GoPlus: 33 Major Web3 Security Incidents in August with Total Losses of Approximately $188.1 Million
In August, a total of 33 significant Web3 security incidents were recorded, resulting in total losses of approximately $188.1 million, which is 59% of the total losses in July and still 2.4 times the losses in June. There were 28 exploitation-type attacks, leading to losses of about $162.3 million. The largest single incident involved Tectonic, which faced price manipulation and excessive borrowing attacks, resulting in a loss of $75 million. The five incidents with the highest losses accounted for approximately $141.5 million, representing about 75.2% of the total losses. In terms of classification, price manipulation and oracle attacks accounted for about $83.2 million, private key leaks and wallet thefts for about $39.1 million, and underlying chain and ecosystem vulnerabilities for about $25.8 million, with these three categories of risks collectively accounting for approximately 79% of the total losses.
