DHH Establishes Omacom Foundation with $8 Million in Startup Funding

DHH (David Heinemeier Hansson) has announced the establishment of the non-profit Omacom Foundation, which has secured $8 million in startup funding aimed at supporting infrastructure and open-source development related to Omarchy. The foundation will hold relevant trademarks, cover infrastructure costs, and support dependent open-source projects and developers. The first eight donors, each contributing $1 million, include Shopify CEO Tobi Lütke, Stripe CEO Patrick Collison, Dell Technologies CEO Michael Dell, Block Chairman Jack Dorsey, Cloudflare CEO Matthew Prince, Oculus co-founder Brendan Iribe, 37signals CEO Jason Fried, and DHH himself. The Omacom Foundation will become the exclusive sponsor of Hyprland, signing a three-year sponsorship agreement that may be extended for another two years. The sponsorship will allow Hyprland founder Vaxry to focus on project development without the pressures of commercial development or fundraising. The foundation will take over sponsorship starting October 10, ending the existing Hyprperks paid subscription, with related services becoming free, while the project will still accept individual donations. Omarchy is a Linux environment based on Arch Linux + Hyprland, aimed at integrating a highly customizable Linux desktop into a more complete system.
