Bitcoin Holds Above $78,000 as Brent Crude Surpasses $100
Bitcoin is priced at approximately $78,451, maintaining above the $78,000 mark. Brent crude oil prices have surpassed $100, reaching $100.19, while the yield on the 10-year U.S. Treasury bond is nearing 4.81%. Since early August, oil prices have risen by about 25%, primarily driven by escalating tensions in the Middle East. Higher energy prices could exacerbate inflation, limiting the Federal Reserve's room for easing policies and enhancing the appeal of yield-bearing assets. Nevertheless, the 90-day correlation between Bitcoin and gold has risen to 0.56, the highest level since 2020, while its correlation with the Nasdaq 100 index and the dollar has dropped to nearly zero. In the derivatives market, Bitcoin's sensitivity to macroeconomic surprises has become evident; within 30 minutes of the release of U.S. non-farm payroll data on September 4, Bitcoin fell by 2.32%, open interest declined by 3%, and long positions were liquidated by $119 million, while short positions amounted to $24 million. The next test will be the U.S. August CPI, expected to be released on Friday at 8:30 AM Eastern Time, which may influence market bets on the Federal Reserve's decisions on September 15 and 16.
