50 Hacking Incidents in the Crypto Industry in August Resulting in Losses of Approximately $136 Million

In August 2026, the crypto industry experienced 50 significant hacking incidents, a 67% increase from 30 incidents in July, with total losses amounting to approximately $136.3 million, a 49.5% decrease compared to the previous month. The largest hacking event in August was the Tectonic.cro attack, resulting in losses of about $74 million, making it the fourth largest crypto theft case of the year, following the Drift, KelpDAO/LayerZero, and Coldcard vulnerability incidents. Other major attacks included Moonwell ($8.7 million), Termlabs ($8.5 million), Coinsbuy ($7.9 million), TAC ($7.5 million), Injective ($4.8 million), MANTRA ($3.6 million), BounceBit ($3 million), Cosmos Labs ($2.87 million), and Aquifer ($2.47 million).
